Overview
For this milestone, we completed the Alpha presentation and Proposal submissions. My contributions included expanding the mood board with enemy designs, creating a character reference sheet for Luna, and developing wireframes to map out the user flow. I also refined the presentation slides with clearer visuals and game concept explanations. Throughout the process, we kept our Trello board updated with tasks and attached files to stay organized.
Alpha Presentation
For the alpha presentation, I focused on refining the game concept portion of our slides. I developed a new slide that illustrates the overall game flow and clearly communicates the main objective. To enhance visual engagement, I incorporated meaningful icons and imagery that reinforce the core gameplay mechanics and help convey the player experience at a glance.
Storyboard/wireframes
I created wireframes using a storyboard template to showcase the user flow, with each screen wireframe indicating key points of user interaction. Starting with the home menu screen, the wireframes cover cut scenes that establish the story, exploring the spaceship, gathering clues and props, fighting enemies, and finally saving Luna. Those wireframes were also accompanied by notes, which provided further clarification on the screen's purpose and functionality.
Design comps
Using the created storyboard, I chose 2 frames showcasing different player interactions, object pick-up and combat, and added more detail to make it look as close as a screenshot of the final game as possible
Mood board
I added more images to the mood board, specifically for enemy design, as our team decided to redesign the existing enemies as well as design a main final boss to make them look more unsettling. This way, I have a better idea of the overall look while designing/redesigning the enemies.
Luna Character Reference
To support my teammate who was ready to begin modelling Luna, I created a character reference sheet featuring front, back, and side views in T-pose. This helped streamline the modelling process and ensured greater accuracy and consistency.
Updated Trello Board
Our team kept our Trello board up-to-date with completed and upcoming tasks. I found attaching files and links directly to tasks to be much more efficient than email, keeping everything organized and easily accessible in one place, rather than these shared files getting lost in our inbox. An example of this would be the Luna character reference sheet task as shown below:
Challenges
One minor challenge I had was creating the character reference sheet for Luna, as it was my first time creating one, so I didn't know where to start. However, I was eventually able to figure it all out by using the original character design and lots of online references. In terms of the Alpha submission, we were somewhat short on time getting the slides done, but fortunately, we didn't end up staying too late to submit it.
Successes
I was very happy with how the Alpha presentation turned out and the positive and insightful comments and questions we received. Now that we have the core functionality of our game implemented for the prototype, integrating the remaining features for the beta and final submission should be a more streamlined process moving forward.
Hours Spent
Overall, we spent a total of 17.5 hours working for this milestone, around 5 hours were spent on the Alpha presentation preperation, 4 hours for the prototype implementation, 3.5 hours on finalizing the proposal, 3 hours for creating Luna's character reference sheet, and 2 hours Modelling Luna's head.
