Milestone 3 (Zineb)
Overview
For this milestone, we had a planning session in group to discuss the priorities to set for the Alpha day presentations. We decided to focus on starting the prototype and organizing our slide deck. Since we already have a draft for our complete project proposal, we decided to focus on that last.
My role was to create the unity project and connect it to GitHub. I also set up the desktop first-player controller and connected it to the scripts provided in the class lectures. We decided to start with the desktop version since it is the simplest and we will have an easier time working with it for the demo.
I also made some changes to the project overview since we have a clearer story and idea in mind.
Finally I made some sketches to brainstorm the map layout of the spaceship which is the main environment of the game. I focused on player flow and distributing gameplay elements throughout the map. I then got feedback from Sumaiya and Naomi and made a detailed map layout.
Challenges
A challenge I faced was just getting errors from unity; specifically related to Initial movement script when I was trying to set up the player. It was an easy fix however, I ended up having to change in the settings to "both".
Successes
A major success for this milestone was creating the layout for the spaceship. This will help define the spatial structure of the environment before moving into 3d modelling or visual design. I was able to block out the main areas of the ship like the Central Hub, and also include details about potential player interaction places.
