Milestone 4 (Naomi)

Overview

This week, my team members and I focused on finishing the alpha presentation and the proposal document. I spent time on the prototype for the alpha presentation, modeling the placeholder enemies, creating a basic starting point for enemy behaviour and coding the ability to kill enemies. I also incorporated the wand movement animation when an enemy is killed. In addition to this, I worked on my share of sections in the alpha presentation slides and also added transitions between slides to make the presentation more engaging. For the proposal document, I polished the sections I had worked on previously, giving them more detail. I also drew one of the design comps at the end of the document.

My focuses

In addition to the work I did on the alpha presentation and proposal document, I also got a start on modeling our main character, Luna, during the reading week. I first started by sculpting the head based on character references provided by Sumaiya in blender, seen below:

This is what it looked like once I was happy with it:

I then imported the sculpted head into maya as an fbx. I used the enemy as a reference for how big it should be. Sizing of models has been a problem I've faced multiple times when importing them into unity, so I made sure to get the sizing correct from the start. The image to the left is how small it was before scaling it up and the image to the right is how it looked after scaling:

I then started to retopologize by using quad draw. I only had time to go over the major areas this week, which I referenced using an image from design studio II

Challenges and Successes

One problem I had was the symmetry not working when I was doing the quad draw. This is a crucial element of quad draw so it was a big issue. However, it turned out that the head, for some reason, spawned off of the origin, so the symmetry was being applied in an unexpected way. I reimported the fbx and that fixed it.
Overall we had a successful sprint by getting the alpha presentation and prototype done, along with the proposal document and getting a start on modelling Luna.

Total Time Spent

In total we spent around 17 hours this sprint. Proposal document took about 3.5 hours, presentation around 5 hours, prototype building 3 hours, character modelling 2 hours, Sumaiya's character reference around 3 hours and Zineb's puzzle brainstorming about 30 minutes.
