Milestone 8 (Zineb)

 Overview

Since finishing the environment design was my goal for the last milestone, in this milestone I focused on completing it. This included modelling each room and some of its assets, as well as searching for assets that fit the theme well. I also made some textures for my models and created materials for each asset in the game. Furthermore, I added colliders to the room walls and to other objects in the scene so that the player and enemies would not go through them. Additionally, I adjusted the placement of several assets and game objects to improve how the scene looked. I also added lighting to every room and removed the directional light to help create a spooky mood.

Challenges

The first challenge I faced was with the lighting. The emission would not show when the game was played and only appeared in the Scene view. I tried changing it from baked to real-time, but that did not help. I plan on looking it up, watching tutorials, or asking for help with it in the next workshop.

The second challenge was finding assets in 3D model stores. It was hard to find models that matched the “Magical Spacegirl” theme. Most of them were either more sci-fi and realistic or too cartoony. Naomi helped me find some good assets that fit the vibe better, so that was really helpful.

Successes

My main success for this milestone was finally finishing the environment and getting most of it modelled and textured on time. I was really relieved to have the whole map laid out and placed into the scene with the correct high-fidelity models and assets. It felt like a big step because the game world now looks much more complete and closer to the final vision I had in mind.
